Dashboards - Customized figures and KPIs for IoT data

Raphaela Brückl

In mechanical engineering, data is crucial for efficient operation and maintenance of plants. Therefore, dashboards are an indispensable tool for companies to visualize and analyze data.

The challenge is to create transparency for every user. Collecting data, analyzing it, and presenting it in a meaningful way presents challenges to make it easy for decision makers to understand.

In this article, you'll learn how to create dashboards, edit dashboard layouts, and add widgets to get the most out of your data visualization.

Understanding Dashboards and Widgets

The visual, simple display of data allow all users to identify trends, outliers, and issues to make data-driven decisions quickly.

Widgets are specialized dashboard components that display specific KPIs and data streams. They can be tailored to an organization's unique needs and display real-time data that matters most to operations.

Custom widgets also allow for customizability of visualization to identify issues or opportunities for improvement, and can be a valuable tool for decision-makers to use.

Dashboards can include a variety of widgets, such as charts, tables, and graphs that can be customized to meet an organization's specific needs.

Benefits of custom dashboards

By providing a single view of key performance metrics (KPIs), dashboards help decision-makers make informed decisions quickly. They can spot trends, patterns, and outliers that might not otherwise be visible and respond accordingly.

They enable organizations to monitor their operations in real-time, identify bottlenecks, and take corrective action to improve efficiency and productivity.

Dashboards can be used to communicate important information across an organization. They can help ensure that everyone has the data and information and is working toward the same goals, and they can foster a culture of transparency and accountability.

Editing dashboards

The layout of a dashboard refers to how the widgets are arranged and displayed on the screen. The widgets can be freely arranged to meet your requirements.

Add and edit widgets

You can add widgets to the dashboard by clicking the "+" field via the dashboard's edit mode. These widgets can also be moved by dragging them on the canvas.

Edit Widget

In addition, they can be resized to fit the available space on the work surface. The font is adapted to the size. Thus, the focus can be placed on certain widgets within a dashboard.

Widget Sizes

To make generating a new dashboard as easy as possible, existing dashboard models can be saved as layouts. These can then be easily reused and customized on all assets.

Widgets

Here are examples of the most commonly used widgets in dashboards:

Single value widget

The widget displays a data point, such as the minimum, maximum, average, or last value, in a data set. It is useful for monitoring changes in real-time.

Einzelwert Widget

Gauge widget

The gauge widget displays a value within arange of values. It is useful for monitoring KPIs and tracking progress towards goals.

Gauge Widget

Line widget

The line widget displays a trend over time. It is suitable for tracking data changes over a period of time.

Line Chart

Status-Widget

Das Status-Widget zeigt einen Status oder eine Bedingung an. Es ist nützlich, um den Status von Maschinen oder Prozessen zu verfolgen.
